RAISING DONOR AWARENESS
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
During his recent deployment, Army Staff Sgt. Erik Tofte carried a Donate Life flag to Africa, the Mideast, Europe and Southeast Asia and displayed it to honor college friend Cameron Chana, who saved and enhanced more than 30 people’s lives as an organ and tissue donor. Erik took photos of himself with the Donate Life flag during his travels and recently presented the flag and a photo book to Cameron’s parents, Robert and Lori Chana. The Chicago Tribune and The Doings newspapers have chronicled Erik’s story.

Gift of Hope and organ and tissue donation were featured on a recent segment of WGN-TV’s Focus on Family. Alison Smith, our Vice President of Operations, and Kevin Helmer, a donor husband, were the guests. Alison talked about the importance of being a registered organ and tissue donor and sharing that decision with family and friends. Kevin generously shared the story of his wife, Niki, who died in 2011 and saved the lives of three people as an organ donor and many others as a tissue donor. |

Vivian honored her son, John, a tissue donor whose gifts have touched the lives of more than 30 people since his death in 2004. Vivian’s husband, Larry, accompanied her to share in the festivities surrounding the parade. We invite you to view pictures from the Lefferts’ experience.
